Litchfield National Park (Northern Territory)
A magical day exploring Litchfield National Park and I could not get over the different colour in the soil and trees. A perfect sunny day. Hard to believe that by around 4 pm, the daily torrential downpour that is the wet season would happen.
Litchfield National Park is about 100km south west of Darwin and can easily be done in a day.

Lamington National Park (Queensland)
Lamington National Park is spectacular. Some of the trees in the park are said to be over 5,000 years old. Being over 1000 metres above sea level does provide a unique environment for Antarctic beech trees to grow. Lamington is the most northern Antarctic subtropical rainforest in the world.
Lamington National Park is on the Queensland/New South Wales border. The national park is about 85km southwest from the Gold Coast and 110km south from Brisbane.

Far South Coast (New South Wales)
The Far South Coast takes in the Eurobodalla and Sapphire Coast regions. Narooma is 344km south of Sydney.
Some things of interest are Montague Island (9km off the coast from Narooma) and Central Tilba, a National Trust village.
There are some fantastic along this stretch of coastline, notably at Narooma (Surf Beach), Mystery Bay and Bermagui.

High Country & King Valley (Victoria)
The High Country is located in north-east Victoria and is well worth a visit whatever the season. The area is famous for skiing in winter and cycling the year round.
The King Valley towns of Myrtleford and Beechworth are a good base for cheese, wine, and honey tasting. Nearby is Yackandandah for jams and Chiltern where many of the buildings are preserved by the National Trust.
The famous bushranger, Ned Kelly was captured in the town of Glenrowan and was tried in Beechworth. The town museum incorporates the courthouse where he was tried, and you can visit his cell.

Hobart (Tasmania)
Hobart is well worth a visit whatever the season. I visited in Autumn, and while it was cold, it was beautiful.
There are many things to do in Hobart itself, such as visit Mt Wellington and Cascade Brewery, but there is also Salamanca Markets for the bars and seafood restaurants.
A must, as a day trip, is the former colonial prison of Port Arthur. It is a chilling reminder of life was like for prisoners and the early settlers in what was Van Diemen’s Land.
